Do You Have a Social Media Plan?

Odds are, you don’t.  Most of the people we have talked to don’t have a plan regarding their social media.  They open their computer, login to Facebook, and then start thinking about what to write.  Then they say that social media doesn’t work.  OF COURSE IT DOESN’T WORK!  Well, it doesn’t work if you don’t have a plan, at least.

The overriding difficulty of running your social media efforts is that it is constant and ongoing.  There is no end to it, there is no completion date to push for.  Because of this, it is extremely important to be organized and to stay organized.  Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you develop your social media plan.


What content are you creating to engage your audience? (video, blog, podcast, etc.)

Who is your target audience?

How will you reach them?

What are your goals for social media?

How will you track your results?

Who is being successful at social media and why are they successful?

How will social media increase leads/business?

What themes/topics will you convey over the next week, month, year?


These are simply just a few questions to get you started.  The importance of a plan cannot be stressed enough.  What else would you go into and just wing it?  Nothing.  At least nothing that you plan on being wildly successful in.   So create a plan and have a strategy.  You will see and feel the difference.
