Email marketing is one of the most effective ways to reach your customers and potentially turn prospects into clients. But, that’s only if you have subscribers on your email list to reach out to! One of the biggest challenges of tackling email marketing is getting more subscribers. How do you get a person to willingly sign up for your newsletter? Here are five things that you can implement now to organically increase the number of sign-ups for your newsletter:
1. Add a tab to your Facebook profile: If you’re using a popular online email marketing program like Constant Contact or MailChimp, chances are the program already has developed a Facebook app that you can add to your Facebook page. All you need to do is search for it on Facebook, add it to your Facebook page and then follow the setup protocol (usually just linking your email marketing program login information to the app). The tab is subtle, but it works to open up your e-newsletter to your existing Facebook fan base.
2. Publicize your newsletter everywhere: Make it a point to continually remind people that your email newsletter exists! Every time you send out a new newsletter, publicize it on all of your social media channels. Make a Facebook post about it, parse the newsletter into tweets that you can send out for the next month and send a message to all of your LinkedIn connections linking them to the newsletter.
3. “Gate” your free content: Do you regularly give away a powerpoint, e-book, document or any other content with valuable information about your industry to the public or your clients? Turn this into an opportunity to build your email list by setting up a simple web form “gate” that requires an email address in order for anyone to download your free content.
4. Keep it simple: What deters people most from signing up for an e-newsletter? A complicated web form. If your sign-up form asks a million questions, a person will most likely abandon the form all together, and you’ll lose out on a subscriber because you wanted to know too much! Keep your forms simple. Ask for the person’s name and email address, and that’s it. If you want to know more, reach out to the person later.
5. Don’t spam: This should be obvious, but is worth mentioning anyway. Treat your email subscriber list as a privilege and don’t abuse it by spamming your readers. Always send out good, valuable content that will benefit your readers. This will not only ensure that people won’t unsubscribe from you, but will hopefully forward along your email to their contacts, which could lead to more subscribers for you.
