There’s More to Blogging than Writing

Now that you’ve gotten the writing portion done of blogging, what next? Thanks @sophie_sinnott for the picture!

So you’ve written your blog post and published it. Phew, that was a lot of work, right? We know it takes a lot of effort to write a blog post, but unfortunately, if that’s all your blogging protocol consists of, then it’s not enough. Blogging is a lot more than just the writing aspect. If you’re just writing and posting up blogs without a strategy, then you’re wasting a lot of your effort and time!

There are millions of blogs out there on the web. On WordPress alone, 500,000 new posts are published every single day. Your blog isn’t going to magically appear on people’s monitors or RSS feeds for them to read, so it’s up to you to take some time and publicize it. Here are five things you can do to get your blog posts in front of more people:

Share on Facebook: Share your blogs not only on your business’ fan page, but also on your personal profile. Your personal network is powerful, so use it! When you share your blogs with your friends and fans, they will “like” the post and then their network will have a chance to see and read your blog, too.

Start Discussions on LinkedIn:  Take your blog post and use it as a discussion topic on LinkedIn. Posting it on your profile is a good first step, but you should also take some time to post your blog in your groups. Groups are great places for posting your own content and starting conversations with other people. And by doing so, you can network and develop relationships with more people on LinkedIn.

Create Tweets: Tweeting out a link to your blog post is great, but go the extra mile and create tweets from snippets of what you’ve already written.  These tweets provide instant information to your followers, and when they read them, they’ll feel more inclined to click through to your blog post because they already realize that there is value behind what you’re saying. The great thing is that you can create dozens of tweets from a single blog post.

Pin It! Yes, you can pin your blog posts! Because Pinterest is very visual, make sure that you use a pretty or interesting photo that will attract pinners. Try to join community boards that are relevant to your business so that you can pin your blogs there too.

Connect with Other Bloggers: Find other bloggers and network with them. Read their blogs, and give them feedback. Leaving a comment on other people’s blogs makes them feel good, and is a great way to network with other people in your industry. Also, by leaving comments, you’re putting your name and your blog address out there, giving you more visibility and hopefully drawing back new readers.


Of course, all of this is a little extra work, but since you’ve already put in all that time writing your blog, why not take a couple extra steps to make sure it gets read?
